Rom 5:12 – Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
1 Cor 2:14 – The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
Eph 2:1-3 – And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
Other verses include Prv 30:12; Mt 11:25; Jn 3:3; 5:21; 6:53; 8:19; 14:16; Acts 13:41; 1 Cor 1:18; 2 Cor 1:9; 5:17; and Eph 2:12.
The doctrine of Total Depravity paints a bleak picture for the human race. Our only hope is for God to do something about it, restoring our relationship with him. The good news is that God did do something, sending us his Son, Jesus, to redeem us. Over the next few months, we’ll see how the other points of TULIP address God’s action towards our redemption, and our status as a redeemed people.
