MPC Service Broadcast (ACP) #7

This is an abbreviated service broadcasted from the pulpit amid the coronavirus pandemic (ACP) of 2020.

Included below are relevant items from the bulletin:

CALL TO WORSHIP:

Come, behold the works of the Lord.
How he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our fortress.
Let us worship him in spirit and in truth.
- From Psalm 46:8-11 & John 4:23-24

INVOCATION

CONFESSION OF FAITH: The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God,
begotten of his Father before all worlds,
God of God, Light of Light,
very God of very God,
begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father;
by whom all things were made;
who for us and for our salvation
came down from heaven,
and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary,
and was made man;
and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried;
and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures,
and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father;
and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead;
whose kingdom shall have no end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son;
who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified;
who spoke by the prophets;
and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church;
we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins;
and we look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. AMEN

CONFESSION OF SIN:

Holy Father, you see us as we are and know our inmost thoughts. We confess that we are unworthy of your gracious care. We forget that all life comes from you and that to you all life returns. We have not sought to do your will with our whole hearts. We have not lived as grateful children, nor lived as Christ loves us. Apart from you, we are nothing. Only your grace can sustain us. Lord, in your mercy, forgive us, heal us, and make us whole. Set us free from our sin and restore us to the joy of your salvation now and evermore.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Amen
- Colossians 1:13-14

OLD TESTAMENT READING:   Job 1:6-22

PASTORIAL PRAYER/LORD’S PRAYER:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts;
as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not in temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom
and the power
and the glory, forever. Amen

SERMON PASSAGE:   Acts 14:1-18

SERMON TITLE:   “Glory to God”

SERMON NOTES:

Fallen Condition Focus: The tendency to credit God’s work to the means.

1. Christians engage in spiritual warfare.

2. The Lord engages in spiritual warfare.

Proposition: Because the Lord is victorious in spiritual warfare, we must attribute to God his blessings of grace.
