Three Days – Easter 2020 (ACP) #4

Preacher:
Passage: Mark 15:42-16:8
Service Type:

Easter Worship Service for Monroeville Presbyterian Church broadcasted from the pulpit amid the coronavirus pandemic (ACP) of 2020.

CALL TO WORSHIP:

Why do you look for the living among the dead?
He is not here; the Lord has risen!
He is risen!
He is risen!
He is risen!
Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?
Death has been swallowed up in victory!
Christ has risen!
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;
and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”
Thanks be to God!
He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Lord has risen!
He has risen indeed!

INVOCATION

HYMN: Low In The Grave He Lay (Christ Arose)

CONFESSION OF FAITH: The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
The third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen.

CONFESSION OF SIN:

Almighty God, you have raised Jesus from the grave and crowned him Lord of all. We confess that we have not bowed before him or acknowledged his rule in our lives. We have gone along with the way of the world and failed to give him glory. Forgive us and raise us from sin, that we may be your faithful people, obeying the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ, who rules the world and is the head of the church, his body.

SILENT CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by his grace we have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness towards us in Christ Jesus. Amen.
- Ephesians 2:4-7

HYMN: The Power Of The Cross

OLD TESTAMENT READING:       2 Kings 13:14-21

PASTORAL PRAYER/THE LORD’S PRAYER:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts;
as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not in temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom
and the power
and the glory, forever.
Amen

SERMON PASSAGE:      Mark 15:42-16:8

SERMON TITLE: “Three Days – Easter 2020”

SERMON OUTLINE:

Fallen Condition Focus: In the normal, Jesus’ resurrection had, perhaps, taken on a sense of just being ordinary.

  1. What were these three days like for Jesus?

2. What were these three days like for the disciples?

Proposition: Since Jesus was resurrected on the third day, Christians should live every day in joy.
